We’re proud to present a true collector's item from our Workshop | Australian Made Collection, along with some new embroidery patches. Only 10 unique military tent totes are available. Each tote is crafted from a damaged, up-cycled military tent combined with an Australian-made military-grade waterproof canvas lining and webbing. Since this was the last of the fabric, we selected and sewed together different parts and unique sections from the tent, ensuring that every bag is one-of-a-kind and that every last piece was used.

Why This Tote is Unique

Each price is a unique creation, sewn together from different parts and distinctive sections of the original military tent. This up-cycling process not only breathes new life into vintage materials but also ensures that no two bags are alike.

  • Upcycled Military Tent Fabric

  • Australian-Made Wax Converters Canvas Lining

  • Australian Made Milspec Webbing

The End of an Era

We’re heartbroken to share that Wax Converters, run by the Kelman family since 1991, closed down last month—a significant loss for the canvas community. We relied on their fabric for our Workshop Collection, including swags, Australian Made Totes, Utility Bags, and Utility Tarps. Wax Converters was the only fabric supplier that offered woven, cleaned, and treated fabrics in Australia - 100% Australian made and truly engineered for Aussie conditions and trusted by legends like Murchison River Swags, Drifta, and the Australian military. While this closure has set back our 2025 plans for our Workshop Collection and we have removed most of these products from our website, we're working on a few options in the background.

Customisation Options

When you order the bag, it will come with 4 patches (not ironed/sewn on) so you can either choose to put them on your tote, your workwear, jeans, jacket, or caps. These patches were made in collaboration with our talented friend Sam Chirnside, expressing a bit more about who we are as a brand.

Important: Use a handkerchief or similar when ironing on your patches, each one will require 2-3 minutes to properly apply. For extra strength we recommend sewing on your patches, especially for clothing that will be going through the wash.

Important Notes

  • Unique Variations: Due to the upcycled nature of our materials, each tote may look slightly different from the photos, embracing the uniqueness and character of each piece.
  • Photography Disclaimer: The photos are for reference only. The actual item may vary slightly depending on the piece of material used.
  • Warranty: These totes are not covered under our standard 10-year warranty as the military tent canvas is vintage.

About the Workshop | Australian Made Collection

The Remote Projects workshop is our home to R & D, Design, Repairs and limited edition Australian Made Utility Goods made here in the Northern Rivers.

The past few years have highlighted the importance of developing a degree of self-reliance as we battled Bushfires, Covid, and Floods. Aussies have a history of being both resilient and self-reliant, but the lockdown highlighted how much we depend on supply chains.

What started out as a lockdown project to learn how to use an Industrial Sewing Machine to make a swag for camping down at the back creek has now grown to a collection that has now been refined and tested in Remote Australia.

Our objective with the Workshop Project is to increase our Australian Made capacity as well as improve design & quality across our range by developing a greater understanding of making gear ourselves.

We’re proud to also offer repairs, repurposing and limited Australian Made releases exploring our Utility Goods design principles of Functionality, Durability & Utility.

While the Workshop collection may come at a premium, your support enables this venture, allowing us to fairly compensate our skilled machinists and explore a sustainable approach to local manufacturing. Thank you for being a part of our journey towards a more self-sufficient and resilient future and for supporting Australian made.
